About the Exams


For most students, taking the AP Exam in May serves as the natural culmination of their AP course experience. Schools wishing to provide this experience to their students should be aware of the different AP Exams available, the responsibilities associated with administering exams, and the exam development processes that ensure college-level learning is being assessed.


 AP Program 2014 Important Dates and Deadlines

August 2013
Announcements of upcoming AP workshops for professional development are mailed to schools.
August 2013
Principals or designated school administrators should access their AP Course Audit accounts to renew previously authorized courses for the new school year. All AP Chemistry and Spanish Language and Culture teachers must submit a new course syllabus for authorization during the 2013-14 academic year. New teachers of AP courses should be encouraged to participate in the AP Course Audit if they haven’t already done so. For more information,

AP Scholar Awards and AP International Diploma notifications are sent to students.
September 2013
Schools receive annual AP participation materials.
September 15, 2013
Deadline for ordering free-response booklets from the 2013 AP Exam administration.
October 2013
Schools complete the annual AP participation materials and designate their AP Coordinators.
October 2013
Rebate checks are mailed to AP Coordinators who administered at least 150 exams in 2013.
October 2013
Free-response booklets for the 2013 AP Exam administration are sent to schools that have ordered them.
October 2013
Studio Art posters are mailed to schools to the attention of the AP Studio Art teacher.
October 31, 2013
Deadline for students to request Multiple-Choice Rescore Service for the 2013 AP Exam administration.
November 2013
2013 State and National Summary Reports and the Canadian Summary Report are posted online.
November 2013
AP Course Ledger of authorized 2013-14 AP courses is available.
November 15, 2013
Deadline for schools to return the AP Participation Form and Participation Survey.
December 2013
The AP Program begins to mail the AP Coordinator’s Manual, a supply of the Bulletin for AP Students and Parents (available in English and, by request, in Spanish or large type), and other information to schools that have submitted AP Participation Forms.
December 2013
Principals receive the PSAT/NMSQT® Roster of Student Scores and Plans, which includes the AP Potential™ access code.
December 2013
AP Potential becomes available this month.
January 2014
AP Coordinators receive an email containing exam ordering information and can begin ordering exams online.
Mid - to late January
The AP Studio Art Digital Submission Web application becomes available. Visit Studio Art Exams for details.
January 31, 2014
Deadline for initial AP Course Audit submissions, renewals, removal of teachers and courses, addition of online/distance learning courses and AP Course Audit form approvals for 2013-14 courses.
February 2014
The 10th Annual AP Report to the Nation is released.
February 2014
Upcoming AP Summer Institutes for professional development are announced.
February 17, 2014
Postmark deadline for College Board AP Fellows grant applications.
February 21, 2014
Deadline for submitting complete disability documentation for students with disabilities.
March 2014
Schools may begin submitting AP Course Audit materials for new courses offered in 2014-15.
March 2014
Orders are placed for preadministration materials:
  • Orders placed by March 12 will be delivered by April 4.
  • Orders placed between March 13 and April 2 will be delivered by April 14.
March 28, 2014
Priority deadline for schools to order AP Exams. Submit orders by this date to ensure timely processing and delivery.
April 2014
AP Coordinators receive and check exam materials. Coordinators must provide Student Packs (or, alternatively, AP numbers and copies of the college code list) to AP Studio Art students as soon as possible after receiving exam shipments. Students will need this information when submitting their portfolios online.

May 9, 2014
Deadline for schools in Canada and the U.S. territories and schools outside the United States and U.S. territories to order alternate exams for late testing. Coordinators should call AP Services if an emergency occurs after this date.
May 13, 2014
Deadline for colleges to order Internet Delivery of Scores to receive scores via the Web in July. Requests received after May 13 will be accommodated with follow-up score reporting.
May 16, 2014
Deadline for schools in the United States to order alternate exams for late testing. Coordinators should call AP Services if an emergency occurs after this date.
May 21-23, 2014
Alternate AP Exams are administered.
June 2014
AP Exams are scored.
June 2, 2014
Deadline for AP Services to receive all exam materials. Schools are billed twice the fee for each exam in shipments received after this date.
June 16, 2014
Postmark deadline for exam payments and invoices submitted to AP Services. Late payments incur a $225 fee.
June 16, 2014
Deadline for AP Services to receive students’ requests to change college score report recipients and to withhold scores for the current year’s administration. Students may cancel scores at any time, but June 16 is the deadline for canceling scores before release of the 2014 AP score reports.
June 16, 2014
Deadline for colleges and universities to change the score reporting services ordered the previous year.
July 2014
AP score reports are available to designated colleges, students, high schools and districts.
July, 2014
Teachers of authorized AP courses and school administrators can access AP Instructional Planning Reports. These reports include subject-specifi c data on how students performed on the various topics within the AP Exams.
